Job Profile Overview:
Painters apply paint or other materials, such as stains, lacquer, enamel, oil, varnish, fiberglass, metal coating or fire retardant using brushes, rollers or spray equipment to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and other structures. They prepare and clean surfaces by scraping, sanding, sandblasting, hydro-blasting and steam-cleaning; repair cracks and holes in walls; and apply sealers. Painters read specifications to determine the quantities and know the techniques for handling their specialized products.
Working conditions:
- Extended shift hours in changing weather conditions.
- Busy, noisy, and dusty environments on dynamic terrains with multiple trades working together.
- Personal Protective Equipment will be required (e.g., steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.)
- Frequently alternating between standing, kneeling, and lifting positions in elevated or cramped spaces.
- Construction jobs may require workers to be in good physical condition with the ability to lift heavy weight.
Requirements:
- Fall Protection/Fall Arrest certificate.
- OFA Level 1 certificate.
- Respirator training.
- Knowledge of surface preparation using hand tools, extension poles & sanding head; roller and brush; ability to read paint codes.
- Must have good observational skills and the ability to multitask.
- Have a good understanding and the ability to follow safe work procedures.
- Site Ready BC including WHMIS required (provided by BCIB upon employment).
Assets:
- Valid Certificate of Qualification or Red Seal, Journeyperson, or Apprenticeship Painter Certification.
- Aerial Work Platform, Confined Space Awareness certificates.
- Experience working in commercial or heavy civil construction.
Wage Range: Wages can be found in the wage table of the Community Benefits Agreement
